How we work
Our experience has demonstrated that there are a number of common mistakes that most people make when it comes to financial planning. If any of them apply to you, it’s probably worth talking to us:
- You are too busy to give your affairs the attention they deserve
- You are outstanding in your chosen field or profession, but you don’t have the specialist knowledge to create a really effective financial plan
- You frequently use everyday approaches and financial products designed for the mass market
- You pay too much tax, or anticipate that you will do in the future
- You don’t have a written strategy or plan
- You have allowed poor experiences with other professional advisers to influence your views on alternative sources of advice
- You don’t know MyNumber
We have developed a process to address these problems and guide our clients towards financial independence.
There are two ways in which our clients may choose to engage with us.
1: The Strategic Approach
The majority of our clients choose to engage with us at a strategic level. This allows them to gain clarity on their desired future through the MyNumber process.
Once you know MyNumber you will only ever have one of two problems: Either you have more money than you need or not enough.
For those clients who are fortunate enough to exceed their Number, we help them to manage their wealth in such a way that they remain financially independent.
Clients who are yet to achieve their Number benefit from our expertise by us creating a bespoke financial plan which helps them to get there in the most efficient way. We are able to shape the plan and populate it with both the product solutions available exclusively through St. James’s Place Wealth Management and in addition, products and services from other providers that have been carefully selected to complement and enhance the range of St. James's Place products that we will be able to offer you. We believe the providers represent the 'best of breed' in their respective categories and are capable of delivering the high standards you would expect. We also take responsibility for the efficient and timely implementation of your Financial Plan as well as reviewing it on an ongoing basis.
2: The Tactical Approach
Occasionally, clients will choose to engage with us on a tactical basis in order to resolve stand-alone planning issues. For example, our advice and guidance may be required for challenges surrounding pension planning, Inheritance Tax mitigation or the investment of surplus capital.
The value of an investment with St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select and the value can therefore go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.
The levels and bases of taxation and reliefs from taxation can change at any time. The value of any tax relief depends on individual circumstances.
